Simple Reverberation Time Calculator

Over to you…

Calculator Preamble

Whist we offer comprehensive services in architectural acoustics, sometime a quick calculation helps decision making

This is a high-level screening tool intended to give an indicative reverberation time estimate using the Sabine method, and to show the sort of spaces typically associated with different reverberation time criteria.

Some things to think about when using the tool:

  • The calculation is most representative where absorption is spread reasonably evenly across the room surfaces. Accuracy is more limited in spaces with higher ceilings, uneven acoustic treatment, irregular geometry, or open connections to adjacent areas.
  • As a rule of thumb, treat results with more caution where ceiling heights are above 2.8 m.
  • The tool doesn’t account for sound attenuation by air (considering temperature and humidity)
  • Simplified tools can provide useful early guidance, but they cannot capture the full complexity of real spaces.
  • If the acoustic performance of a space is important to the project, or if there is any uncertainty in interpreting the results, professional acoustic advice should be sought.

Enter the room dimensions and select the finishes for each room surface, then choose the type of space for a typical target design criteria.
